This is a very high molecular weight polyethylene offering maximum strength combined with minimum weight:

* limited temperature resistance (melting point 150°C)
* maximum continuous operating temperature 70°C
* fibre density 0.97: buoyant
The low stretch of the ropes is very advantageous where there is limited room for movement, where any dynamic force from stretching can be very dangerous, e.g., for winches, tugs, and when mooring ships with heavy equipment.
HMPE fibre ropes are especially recommended where low weight and easy handling are important, also in water transport for fast and safe mooring and towing.
